NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT

February  2017

Dear Congregational Family:

We have now begun the process of recommending candidates for the next Board of Trustees term, which begins on July 1, 2017.  Under our Constitution, this is done by a Nominating Committee, consisting of three (3) Board members and two (2) non-Board members.   The Nominating Committee must complete its work by early April so that the congregation has notice and an opportunity to review the slate (and to challenge the slate if so desired) in advance of the Annual Congregational Meeting on June 8, 2017.

Perhaps you know of someone who you think would be a good candidate.  Perhaps you are interested in serving in some capacity.  Please make sure that the Nominating Committee is aware of your interest and/or your proposed nominees so that everyone who might contribute to the leadership of our congregational family can be considered.  A complete list of positions on the Board, along with a description of the responsibilities that go with each position, can be obtained from the synagogue office.

Please be assured that we are looking for the broadest possible representation on the Board.  We have steadily expanded the scope of Board experience in recent years, so that we now mirror the congregation in terms of age, number of years as a member and socioeconomic status.  But there is always more to do and so we hope you will take this opportunity to suggest names for the Nominating Committee to consider.  Of course, not everyone considered will be offered an opportunity to serve on the Board, but everyone will be seriously considered and the committee may suggest other ways to become involved in the meantime.

The members of the Nominating Committee are Laura Goldberg (chair), Anne GoodmanYael Emenecker,  Mark Maroldo, and Evan Levine.  Please feel free to contact them directly.

I would also like to urge those of you who might consider serving on the Board of Trustees one day, but do not yet have the time or experience, to consider joining one of our committees instead.  Change and involvement start at the committee level and there is no better place to test the waters!

 L'shalom
